The Georgia Peanut Commission is donating 10,080 jars of peanut butter towards disaster relief efforts in South Georgia. The Peanut Proud peanut butter is being donated to Second Harvest of South Georgia and disaster relief efforts in Cook and Turner counties.
“Peanut farmers in Georgia, through the Georgia Peanut Commission, have supported the Peanut Proud relief efforts since its inception and we are proud to continue to do so in disaster relief efforts,” says Armond Morris, chairman of the Georgia Peanut Commission. “Peanut butter is the perfect food in disaster relief efforts since it does not have to be refrigerated, does not require cooking, and delivers a nutritional punch that is life-sustaining.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, Georgia Peanut Commission staff helped with the delivery of peanut butter to Second Harvest of South Georgia and disaster relief centers in Cook and Turner counties. The peanut butter manufactured by Kroger and J.B. Sanfilippo & Son, in addition to a private label made by Peanut Proud, is included in these deliveries to South Georgia.
“We are overwhelmed by the continuing generosity of Georgia’s farming community,” says Eliza McCall, chief marketing officer with Second Harvest of South Georgia. “This donation from the Georgia Peanut Commission will go a long way toward helping us care for our neighbors in need.”
Donations are still being accepted for the Peanut Proud disaster relief efforts which include additional areas in South Georgia and Mississippi. Anyone interested in donating to this effort can send tax deductible contributions to: Peanut Proud Inc., P.O. Box 446, Blakely Georgia, 39823. Make checks payable to Peanut Proud.
