Everett Griner talks about consumer choice of wild meat over farm-produced meat increasing in today’s Agri View.

Here is an interesting report. Americans are eating record amounts of wild meat. That includes a long list of wild creatures. But it is heavily headed by deer and turkey. Interestingly, both of these animals were hunted to almost extinction from the early 1900s to the later part of that century.
It is only because of strong and effective conservation programs that both species survived. Today they abound in the parts of the country that support them. In spite of the millions of turkeys raised by poultry farmers, about 2 ½ percent of this year’s Thanksgiving turkeys were supplied by hunters. There are no estimates on deer, but wildlife officials know that deer meat has replaced a lot of farm-raised meat on the dinner table.
And guess what? Farmers don’t care.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
