Everett Griner talks about chicken prices following other meats in today’s Agri View.

For the past three or four years, statistics show beef and pork prices climbing higher and higher. And people are eating more chicken. Well, what are we going to do now? Chicken prices are doing the same thing as the other meats. Chicken breast prices went up 30 cents a pound from late July to the end of August. That has followed over 10 cents a pound from last year. Now, at the same time, leg quarters were up 8 cents, or 20 percent more, in just 2 weeks. A more realistic way to look at it is, there are no cheap meats. Sources in the retail meat industry were not expecting chicken prices to go up as much as they did. And, they don’t know if the increases will slow consumption, or just what to expect. Well, there are always hot dogs and bologna.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner
