It’s that time of year when the annoying seasonal cold and flu symptoms sneak up on you, move in, and stick around for awhile.
Here’s an easy way for you to fight back. With Ginger, hot peppers and garlic. Herbalists have long combined these three ingredients along with apple cider vinegar for a powerful herbal elixir, Fire cider. There’s really no set formula and there are a lot of optional ingredients you can add, like horseradish and onions. Other common ingredients include lemons, honey, and savory herbs (like rosemary, thyme, sage, parsley and chives) which all add health attributes of their own to the brew, but also help to balance out the flavor profile. It only takes about 20 minutes to make a batch of fire cider, but then you need to leave it to brew for a few weeks before it’s ready to use.
Better start now so that when those achy and stuffy feelings show up you can nip them in the bud.
