USDA’s latest cattle on feed report indicates the number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States was at 10.8 million head on May 1st, 1 percent above May 1 of last year. But the biggest surprise of the report was the fact placements in feedlots during April was at 1.66 million head, 7 percent above 2015.
