A Small Surprise in USDA Cattle on Feed Report

cattleAccording to USDA’s latest Cattle on Feed Report, the number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S. was at 10.9 million head on April 1st, 1 percent above April 1, 2015. Placements in feedlots during March totaled 1.89 million head, 5 percent above 2015, while marketing’s of fed cattle during March totaled 1.75 million head, 7 percent above 2015. So the numbers indicate the cattle feedlot inventory is still growing, but according to a report from Gary Crawford, perhaps not as fast as some had expected.
