The deadline to participate in the Post-bloom Fruit Drop (PFD) Survey is Friday, August 7. It is vital to have growers’ feedback on observations/experiences with this devastating disease in their groves so researchers can design management tactics, including the possibility of attaining additional crop protection products to assist growers in reducing the impact of PFD on their crop. At this time, all indications are that there is a high probability of the strong El Niño climate phase extending into the early portion of 2016, bringing increased probability of a higher-than-normal rainfall forecast coinciding with the next citrus bloom. If this increased probability of rainfall occurs, there will be sufficient inoculum present in many groves to increase risk of PFD infection.
