From the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam issued the following statement after Governor Scott today signed House Bill 239.

“Florida is world-renowned for its robust equine industry and has earned the honor of being home to the ‘Horse Capital of the World.’ The legislation that Governor Scott signed today raises industry standards to a level that will continue to propel Florida forward as the premier state for horses.

“I thank Governor Scott for signing legislation that will strengthen the integrity of Florida’s horse industry. I also thank the entire Legislature for their bipartisan support of a bill that will enhance the industry by improving horse health, prohibiting the use of certain medications and substances in horses, as well as increasing penalties for those who violate the law.”
