Mississippi Concerns Turn From Low Water Levels to Flooding

Just three-months ago we were reporting concerns of barge traffic coming to a halt on the Mississippi River near St. Louis due to the drought. Now, it is flooding that has forced the closure of several locks. Resulting in barge shipping on the Illinois River and parts of the Mississippi River to currently be at a standstill. U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Colin Fogarty said that it’s difficult to predict how soon navigation can resume.
