The California slaughterhouse which was recently shutdown due to allegations of cruelty and food safety based on a video released by an animal welfare group, has been approved by USDA to reopen. The Food Safety and Inspection Service evaluated the slaughterhouse’s action plan which according to USDA included a number of corrective actions including additional humane handling training for employees and safeguards to ensure only ambulatory animals are processed.
