Citing a lack of progress in restoring the region to its former, navigable condition despite a court order to do so, a group of environmental groups on Tuesday filed suit against the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, charging the agency with violating the state’s open records and meetings laws. “Instead of actually remediating the hydrological effects of the Fisheating Creek restoration, the secret advisory committee decided to obliterate the restoration project by building a road across the marsh and backfilling the navigation channel with 50 million pounds of sand,” EarthJustice attorney David Guest wrote in the lawsuit filed with the Second Circuit Court in Tallahassee.
