FL Ag Commissioner Bronson: Drill Backers Misled on Safety

(News Service of Florida): Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson said he still feels the nation’s energy supply needs oil, but said he and others who had pushed for new drilling were misled about the likelihood of a spill like the one currently threatening the Gulf Coast. “I was one of the ones who said we ought to be looking at drilling in the Gulf,” Bronson said in an interview with the Florida Cable Television Association’s news site, www.capitaldatelineonline.com. “I was pretty much guaranteed that we had three fail-safe systems to shut off any valve. Well, it looks like that didn’t work.” Bronson said, however, that he still thinks the country needs to continue to explore ways to meet future energy needs.
