This week’s annual meeting of Indian River Citrus League marked the organization’s 79th year in existence. 30 of those years have been under the executive leadership of Doug Bournique who says he’s felt “right at home” with the region and the growers from the very start. Some of the League’s growers collaborated to surprise Bournique with special recognition at the meeting for his three decades of service to Indian River Citrus (photo above left).
Bournique and incoming Chairman Brantley Schirard later put the annual meeting spotlight on outgoing IRCL Chairman Stan Carter (Carter left, Schirard right, in photo on right, Schirard on right), who has served four years in IRCL’s top leadership rotation, first as president then as Board chairman. Bournique noted Carter’s leadership tenure has taken place during some of the most challenging times in the industry’s history, and that he leaves the post with things in an upbeat mood looking toward the future.
