People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals works to influence the meat industry by purchasing shares in major meat processors, enough so they can offer shareholder resolutions at annual meetings. But the economy is having an impact on that strategy and the group says to remain eligible in a depressed market, they have to revamp its stock-purchasing strategy by buying additional shares.
