The Senate Agriculture Committee completed work on its version of the 2007 Farm Bill at 12:30 Eastern time Thursday and reported the bill out of committee. Floor debate on the bill has not yet been scheduled.
Chairman Tom Harkin says the bill makes critical investments in energy, conservation, nutrition, rural development and promoting better diets and health for all Americans – while maintaining a strong safety net for producers and strengthening programs that help producers of all kinds.

The bill passed out of committee on a voice vote, despite the fact that committee member Dick Lugar criticized both the House farm bill and the Senate version during opening remarks at Thursday’s mark-up.
