Cathy Isom fills us in on how much we’re paying for that Thanksgiving meal this year.
American Farm Bureau’s 30th annual Thanksgiving Dinner Cost survey showed a slight overall increase in the price for traditional Thanksgiving menu items including turkey, bread stuffing, cranberries, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings. They increased by less than 2 percent and remains affordable at just over $50.00 for 10 people. Farm Bureau economist John Anderson says the dinner price is largely driven by the price of the turkey. Anderson also says turkey prices are up as a result of avian influenza. Meanwhile, other holiday staples such as whole milk, whipping cream and fresh cranberries saw a slight decline in price. This year’s holiday dinner cost remains stable, as it has since 2011.
