University of Florida-IFAS researchers recently published the genome of a bacterium that is the closest cultured relative to the causal agent of citrus greening disease, or HLB. “The significance of this is that we now have available a cultured strain that we can use for antibiotic testing. This should greatly speed the hunt for effective treatments,” University of Florida Senior Vice President of Agriculture and Natural Resources Jack Payne wrote. More information is in this report.
