As growers consider their options this year, BASF is offering recommendations in the event that a replant is considered. We sat down with Kaelin Saul, South Delta Technical Service Representative for BASF, to get her recommendations.

Saul said, “Making sure that you not only have a plan C, just in case things go astray, and that’s true for not only, you know, getting your seed in the ground, but also your crop protection program as well. Because one thing you want to think about is, let’s just say you get your corn in the ground. You go behind the planter and spray something. Now you want to switch over to soybeans. Well, you have to make sure that you’re very considerate of plant-back restrictions for the chemistries you spray. So that’s something to really keep in mind whenever you’re thinking about having to go back and replant in that situation. Another thing is, especially these challenging times with the economics the way they are, you really want to make sure that you’re really weighing all your options as to whether or not you really do need a replant, because the later that you go back and replant into your field, you’re not able to protect your yield potential as much.”

“You might be sacrificing a little bit of your yield potential by going in and replanting. However, there are a lot of situations where you do have to replant. If you don’t get the seed out of the ground or it’s very non-uniform in the field, you have really big gaps in the field, you might have to consider replanting. So every situation is different. So making sure that you’re really leaning into the resources you have available to you. Make sure you’re reaching out to your extension specialist for your state. Also reach out to your local BASF rep specifically if you are using any of our products or are planting our Stoneville varieties or our FiberMax varieties for cotton seeds,” said Saul.
