The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association recently held a field day for young cattle producers and we caught up with Bailey Watson with ACA to learn more.
Watson said, “So last Wednesday, April 1st, we held our spring AJCA Youth Field Day. Usually we hold this year, we only did one this spring because of competition, but we still had a great turnout. It was at CK Cattle Hospital and really opened up their operation to us, but we had over 80 youth from across the state join us. They got to start the day by going through seven BQA focus stations from how to give proper injections to flight zones to reading medicine labels. And then the second half of the day, we went on a farm tour of CK and also they got to practice the cattle work competition, receive a demonstration of that.”
“After all this was said and done, the students actually received their PQA certification. So at the end of the day, we came out with about over 80 students who had received their BQA certification. So we’re super happy with this program. It was a great, beautiful day out there at CK. We do these in the spring, in the fall, open to all Alabama youth. It’s a free youth education opportunity. So looking forward to doing those in the fall again,” said Watson.
