The Alabama legislative session is nearing the end and the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association is working through the remaining bills that impact the cattle industry. We caught up with Erin Beasley with the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association to learn more.

Beasley said, “Very happy to be in the last final days of our session in Alabama. The legislative body comes together. They have 105 calendar days to meet 30 times and they are quickly approaching that number 30 mark. Our expectation is that the session will end sometime around April 8th or 9th and so looking forward to that but we have been busy over on the hill as an association. We’ve been tracking and monitoring several bills this session. We have also been working on a few items within both of the budgets that Alabama is still yet to pass but they are in good position right now and so still working on those.”

“We’ve got a couple things to still tighten up but overall we’re hoping to get to the end of the session unscathed which is always the goal and it’s been a busy one. There’s been a lot of ideas over there. There’s been a lot of little things that have dusted up but we’ve been working on a couple of bills related to veterinary client patient relationship. We’ve been working on a bill related to tethering dogs. We have worked on those budget items and then a couple of business bills and all of those can be read about in the upcoming issue of Alabama Cattlemen’s Magazine where you can learn all about that in the political roundup. Always encourage our members to check that out. That’s our way of reporting what’s going on in the session and then of course we’ll do a recap once the session has signed and died which we expect to be sometime next week,” said Beasley.
