Peanut farmers and other farmers are trying to get ready to plant this crop, not knowing exactly how many you’re going to plant or what you will be planting.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture State Seed Lab encourages you to check your seed, have a seed test done on germination and vigor if you’re saving seed. The easiest way to submit seed to the lab in Tifton, Georgia is to request seed sample envelopes. Seed can be hand delivered or mailed to the lab in Tifton, Georgia.

Each seed sample submission will need to have at least one or two pounds to be able to complete the full test. We also must have the name of the submitter, the mailing address, the telephone number, email, and the kind of seed if you know it, the variety of seed, the lot number, and tests requested such as if you want purity, or you want germination, or hybrid vigor. Seed treatments are used all the time to determine how valuable your seeds are.

Georgia farmers will receive seed germination and purity testing at no charge. There’s a smaller charge for those from out of state. So, call the seed lab in Tifton if you still have seed to be tested for this crop year.
