
The Department of Agriculture is seeking nominees for the Peanut Standards Board.
They’ll fill seats on that board. Six producers and six industry reps will be assigned this year. They will be working with the Farm Bill as authorized to form this Peanut Standards Board.
What do they do? They recommend updates on the minimum quality standards for U.S. peanuts, the food safety requirements and aflatoxin screening for USDA consideration. The board is seeking nominees on the producer side from the southeast, Georgia, Florida and Alabama. They’re also seeking producers from Virginia, Carolina, Virginia, Carolina and South Carolina.
They’ll have two members along with the southeast on the industry. The southeast will be two members from Mexico, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. And then there will also be some from South Carolina.
The board is comprised of 18 members, nine members representing producers and nine members representing the industry. If you’d like to have more information on that or consider being nominated, go to the Peanut Standards Board, their web page with the Agricultural Marketing Service of USDA.
