The Alabama Cattlemen’s Convention educational sessions featured Michael Lowry with the Alabama Poll who provided insights on the upcoming elections. We caught up with Michael after his session to learn what voters are most concerned about this cycle.

Lowry said, “Absolutely anything dealing with the economy, economic issues, and it’s not so much jobs, you know, we always say economy and jobs, but what we’re talking about here are costs, maybe have become a bad word, but affordability.”

“You know, we asked folks what in Alabama can the legislature and the governor do to help you and your family, and the number one answer came back groceries. You know, 50% said that the cost of groceries was through the roof. Next up was health care costs, and then finally insurance, and those last two, we had asked them to give us their top two, so the numbers weren’t 100%, but it was 50% groceries, 34% health care, and 34% on insurance costs,” said Lowry.

“So you’re really talking about your pocketbook issues. If you’re a candidate running for office today and you’re not talking about an affordability issue that a family’s talking about at their kitchen table every night, you’re not going to be winning. You have got to relate where you are, what you believe in, what you’ve done, with how it’s going to fix that problem of affordability for voters today,” said Lowry.
