Farm Bill 2.0

The Food, Farm, and National Security Act of 2026 was officially passed by the Agriculture Committee in Washington this week, 34-17. The bill was supported by Republican members of the committee, along with seven Democrats.

That’s good news. The Farm, Food, and National Security Act is commonly referred to as Farm Bill 2.0. It builds upon the traditional Farm Bill provisions included in last year’s final Big Beautiful Bill. Specifically, this legislation strengthens the operation of the Marketing Assistance Loan Program by clarifying program authority and ensuring that the program remains fully operational during any future shutdowns or lapses in the federal government funding.

We had trouble with that when the government sat down and stopped funds just recently. These updates reinforce the farm safety net and provide greater certainty for producers and market participants while relying on the Market Loan Program for financial stability and for market flexibility. Overall, it’s a good bill and we hope it will move now from the Ag Committee into the full House and let’s get it approved.
