The University of Georgia Beef Team is hosting a webinar for livestock producers on the New World Screwwormon March 19, 2026. We caught up with Raymond Fitzpatrick, ANR Agent in Franklin County to learn more about this upcoming webinar.

Fitzpatrick said, “We are working on a New World Screwworm webinar for preparedness to make sure that our producers across the state are aware of the threat. Although it’s not here yet and we hope it doesn’t get here, we want producers in Georgia to be as prepared as they can be and given the most up-to-date scientific information that we have.”

“Dr. Brad Heins from the College of Veterinary Medicine is going to be with us and going to offer some cattle management strategies and techniques. And then the Georgia Department of Ag, the state vet’s office is going to join us and give us, from their perspective, what they’re seeing coordinating with other states and federal agencies to monitor this emerging pest situation,” said Fitzpatrick.

“Check out the UGA Beef Team on all their social media sites. They can register online through the UGA Beef Team’s website. They can also contact their local county agent. They’ll be glad to put them in touch with that. And if you just want more information, feel free to reach out through that Beef Team site to one of our Beef Team members. We’ll be glad to direct you, give you more information, and sit down and have a conversation with you,” said Fitzpatrick.
