Cattle producers are often looking for solutions to various concerns within their operations and Neogen offers solutions in a variety of products. We caught up with Dr. Paige Pratt with Neogen during NCBA’s CattleCon to learn more.

“Right now we’re right in the midst of lice season and we have a really good product that we actually used in our own place last year. It is going to be Protectus lice control product that would mirror that of the industry leader for lice control with an IGR in it so you’re going to get that season long control. Some unique properties it does have a different synergist so it gives you just a little extra kick have that season long lice control. Can dose it all the way up so if they have a 1300 pound cow that is nice in my opinion because we’re we won’t create so much resistance if we can get it to go all the way up to what the cow truly weighs,” said Pratt.

“Another piece that a lot of folks have gotten pretty excited about is our D3 needles. Those are going to be needles with a brass head they’re stainless steel with an alloy in them so that if you break them off they can detect them in the plants to be able to make sure we get those extracted back out so we don’t get that needle in our product for the consumer. It also has a beveled tip so it stays sharper longer,” said Pratt.

“The other piece that I think certainly could be potential is the fly control as we go into spring making sure that we get good fly control on those cattle and so we offer a lineup of Prozap products that will allow you to be able to rotate through some different formulations and what you’re trying to put on whether it’s a back rubber, whether it’s a spray with a backpack spray, or whether it’s a pour-on. We have all of those different options. Hopefully we don’t need it but we do have some screw-roam spray that if we would come into problems with that coming across the border and being in the south we would have the ability to be able to not only prevent it the fly site but then treat it,” said Pratt.
