Several of the Southeastern State Cattlemen’s Associations came together to pass a resolution during the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association CattleCon in Nashville last week. The resolution aimed to address the European Union’s Deforestation Rule that was passed in 2025 and according to the resolution this rule “imposes unnecessary restrictions that infringe upon American private property rights, a foundational freedom for landowners.”
During the NCBA International Trade Committee meeting, sponsors of the resolution discussed the need as many cattle producers who also own timber are being told that mills will not purchase timber without an affidavit which states that the landowner will not be converting the cleared property to engage in agricultural uses, limiting the landowners ability to use their property for their desired purpose. The resolution states, “that NCBA will work in partnership with the Office of the US Trade Representative and the European Union to secure the permanent removal of the US from the scope of the EUDR.”
The resolution was presented by Ted Kendall IV of Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association and seconded by Keith Glover, President of Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. The resolution was adopted by both the NCBA International Trade committee and Board of Directors meetings. The resolution was submitted by Mississippi Cattlemen’s, Alabama Cattlemen’s North Carolina Cattlemen’s, Louisiana Cattlemen’s, Tennessee Cattlemen’s and Florida Cattlemen’s Associations.
