January is shaping up to be a busy month on the agricultural calendar as farmers across the Southeast prepare for the upcoming growing season. From row crop education to commodity-specific conferences, producers will have numerous opportunities to gain valuable insights, connect with industry experts, and make informed decisions for the new crop year.
Kicking off the schedule is the Alabama Row Crop Short Course, set for January 20 at 1:00 p.m. and January 21 at 12:00 p.m. This year’s event will be held at the Doster Community Center in Prattville, Alabama. The short course is designed to provide practical, research-based information for row crop producers as they finalize plans for planting, fertility, and pest management.
Also coming up early in the month is the Southern Southeastern Cotton Annual Meeting, scheduled for January 19 through January 20. This important cotton industry gathering will take place at the Hilton Hotel in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The annual meeting brings together cotton growers, industry leaders, and researchers to discuss market trends, policy updates, and production challenges facing cotton producers across the region.
On January 20, farmers will have multiple events to choose from. The Arkansas Crop Management Conference will be held that day, offering a broad look at agronomic issues and management strategies relevant to Arkansas producers. Also on January 20, a Corn Short Course will be held as part of the annual meeting of the Corn Growers Association. This event will take place at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Comfort Center, providing corn growers with timely information on production practices and industry updates.
Georgia farmers will have additional opportunities later in the month. The Georgia Young Farmers Association Annual Meeting is scheduled for January 23 through January 24, bringing together young producers from across the state for leadership development, networking, and education. On January 23, the University of Georgia Ag Forecast Meeting will also be held at the UGA Tifton Campus Comfort Center, offering outlooks on commodities, markets, and economic conditions for the year ahead.
With so many meetings and short courses scheduled, January offers farmers a strong start to the season. These events provide critical tools, information, and connections as producers make preparations for a successful new crop year.
