Peanut farmers and industry leaders flocked to Tifton, Georgia, on Thursday for the 49th annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show, hosted by the Georgia Peanut Commission. The event, which was held at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus, offered attendees pertinent information for the upcoming season; whether it be through the UGA production seminar, industry seed seminar or through interactions with vendors at the trade show.
It is an important time of year, explains Rodney Dawson, farm show chairman and treasurer for the Georgia Peanut Commission.
“There is somewhere close to 90 exhibitors. It’s just a chance to tweak your operations and see the latest research,” Dawson said. “It’s just a good time to start off the year, do your planning.
“They’re trying to see what their rotation is going to look like, what their plans are as far as what crops they’re going to put in the ground and see what will help them finalize their profits; learn something today to help them be more profitable, that’s the main thing.”
The Georgia Peanut Commission estimated that close to 1,500 attendees visited the show.
