American Peanut Council Expands Sustainable U.S. Peanuts Initiative for the 2025 Crop Year

American Peanut Council

While peanut farmers are wrapping up the 2025 crop, sustainability efforts across the U.S. peanut sector continue to gain momentum. The American Peanut Council has announced the next phase of its multi-year sustainability project, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to transparency, responsible production, and ongoing improvement.

As the update explains, “While peanut farmers are wrapping up this 2025 crop, and it was a good one, the American Peanut Council is providing excellence on a sustainable peanut project.” This program, now entering its fifth year, is helping shape the future of peanut farming through better data, stronger documentation, and enhanced grower support.

According to the Council, “They’ve announced they will start the 25 crop enrollment now in the fifth year of this project. Sustainable U.S. Peanuts is an industry-wide initiative supporting America’s peanut growers in implementing and documenting sustainable farming practices. The program is designed to meet rising marketplace expectations.”

Consumer and buyer interest in sustainability continues to grow, making traceability and responsible production more important than ever. As stated, “They want to know where your peanuts came from and the long-term economic stability of peanut farming. This information provides growers also with tools and insights to measure and improve your efficiency.”

The project has already shown significant progress. During the previous crop year, “Sustainable Peanut Project enrolled about 326 growers, and now they have 166,000 acres across 12 states that can document exactly how these peanuts are produced.” This level of transparency strengthens confidence among retailers and consumers.

Demand for responsibly sourced ingredients continues to shape market expectations. As the Council notes, “And food companies and consumers want confidence that the ingredients they choose are grown responsibly, and that the U.S. peanut industry is delivering that to them.”

Enrollment efforts will continue throughout the upcoming year, ensuring more growers can participate in the program. The update concludes, “Their enrollment continues, and they’ll be talking to farmers all year in the year to get them enrolled into the American Peanut Council Sustainable Peanut Project.”

With sustainability becoming a key driver in agricultural markets, the expansion of the Sustainable U.S. Peanuts initiative positions the peanut industry for long-term resilience and stronger market trust.
