USDA Launches Stage 2 of Supplemental Disaster Recovery Program for Farmers

As growers continue to recover from Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters, the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) is providing details on Stage 2 of the Supplemental Disaster Recovery Program (SDRP). This new stage offers assistance for losses not covered under Stage 1, helping farmers address additional disaster impacts.
What Stage 2 Covers
Stage 1 of SDRP addressed losses already covered by federal crop insurance programs or prior crop disaster assistance programs. Stage 2 expands coverage to include:
- Smoke damage from wildfires
- Tornado and wind damage
- Freeze or frost events
- Excessive wind and blizzard damage
- Silt and debris accumulation from storms
Stage 2 ensures that producers who experienced losses disqualified in Stage 1 now have an opportunity for support.
Application Window
FSA offices will accept applications for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the program. Producers are encouraged to contact their local FSA office to determine eligibility and begin the application process.
Deadline to apply: April 30, 2026
Why It Matters
The SDRP is a critical safety net for farmers dealing with the financial impacts of natural disasters. By providing assistance for damages not previously covered, Stage 2 helps maintain the viability and stability of U.S. farming operations while supporting recovery efforts after extreme weather events.
Producers affected by Hurricane Helene, winter storms, tornadoes, or other qualifying events are encouraged to review their eligibility and submit applications before the April 2026 deadline.
