Florida Opens 2026 Application Cycle for Rural and Family Lands Protection Program

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Commissioner Wilton Simpson has announced that the 2026 application cycle for the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program (RFLPP) will open soon. In a recent post on X, Commissioner Simpson highlighted the program’s continued success, stating, “The incredibly successful rural and family lands protection program opens its 2026 application cycle on December 15. If you know a Florida farmer who would like to participate they must apply.”
What the RFLPP Program Does
The Rural and Family Lands Protection Program is one of Florida’s most impactful agricultural land preservation efforts. Its core purpose is to conserve agricultural lands through permanent agricultural land conservation easements, ensuring working lands remain productive and protected for generations.
According to FDACS, “The program is designed to meet three needs: Protect valuable agricultural lands; Create easement documents that work together with agricultural production to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and reasonable protection of the environment without interfering with agricultural operations in such a way that could put the continued economic viability of these operations at risk; Protect natural resources, not as the primary purpose, but in conjunction with the economically viable agricultural operations.”
How Projects Are Selected
Applications go through a structured review process, including:
- Technical Review Team evaluation
- Formal ranking by the RFLPP selection committee
- Final approval by the Governor and Cabinet
This comprehensive review ensures that selected projects align with agricultural, environmental, and economic goals.
Application Window and Submission Details
Landowners interested in participating can submit applications through the online portal at fdacs.gov/RFLPP between:

With a mission centered on supporting working lands and safeguarding Florida’s agricultural future, the RFLPP continues to serve as a vital tool for resource protection and long-term economic sustainability.
