USDA Releases 2025 Peanut Crop Estimates: Record Year Ahead for the Southeast

Despite recent disruptions in Washington, the USDA Ag Statistics Service has released its 2025 peanut crop estimate, offering an early look at expected acreage, yields, and total production across key Southeastern states. Based on interviews with farmers and verified FSA acreage reports, the numbers point to a strong season—especially for Georgia and North Carolina, both expected to set new production records.
Alabama Peanut Production Outlook
For 2025, Alabama growers are forecast to plant 192,000 acres of peanuts. With an average expected yield of 3,300 pounds per acre, the state is projected to produce approximately 316,000 tons. While not a record, the estimate reflects solid productivity and stable acreage across Alabama’s peanut-growing regions.
Florida Sees Higher Yields in 2025
Florida is expanding peanut acreage after last year’s 157,000 acres, with growers planting 167,000 acres for the 2025 season. Even more notable is the bump in yield: the state is projected to average 3,900 pounds per acre, nearly 400 pounds more than last year. This improvement will bring Florida’s total production to an estimated 325,000 tons.
Georgia Poised for a Record-Breaking Year
Georgia—the nation’s leading peanut producer—is expected to achieve record production in 2025. Farmers are planting 915,000 acres, and yields are projected to average 4,200 pounds per acre, an increase of about 400 pounds over last year. With these strong numbers, Georgia’s total peanut output is forecast to reach 1,921,000 tons, a new state record and a significant driver of national supply.
Record Peanut Production in North Carolina
North Carolina is also on track to set a new production record in 2025, contributing to what is shaping up to be a standout year across the region. Although specific acreage and yield figures were not detailed in this update, the state’s record-setting performance adds to the overall strength of the Southeast peanut industry.
A Big Year Ahead for the Peanut Belt
With higher yields, solid acreage, and record-setting production in multiple states, the 2025 peanut crop is projected to be one of the strongest in recent years. These estimates position the Southeast to meet both domestic and export demand with reliable, high-quality supply.
