More than half of Georgia’s cotton crop has been harvested this season. But there’s still plenty of cotton left to be picked and plenty of cotton equipment having to be moved from one field to another.
The Georgia Cotton Commission and Camp Hand, University of Georgia (UGA) Extension cotton agronomist, implore road safety during the remaining harvest season. Hand witnessed first hand what can happen if cotton farmers and commuters don’t take precautions on the roads this season.
“I was driving a sprayer (yesterday), and somebody tried to come around me. I didn’t get in an accident, but two cars were in an accident right around me; being safe, moving equipment and such (is important). People just get in a hurry,” Hand said. “The one (accident) that I saw could have been a lot worse than it was. Just a reminder to folks to be safe.”
