Sentinel Ag Uses Satellite Technology to Track Nitrogen for Crops

As precision agriculture continues to evolve, Sentinel Ag is helping farmers make smarter nitrogen management decisions using cutting-edge satellite imagery. The company’s innovative Sentinel platform is designed to provide daily insights that drive more efficient crop input strategies.
We spoke with Jack Stansell of Sentinel Ag to understand how their technology works and what benefits it offers.
“Sentinel Ag is an ag tech business that provides the Sentinel platform. What the Sentinel platform does, it’s a software that uses satellite imagery to track crop nitrogen status on a daily basis, tell farmers and agronomists when there is an approaching crop nitrogen demand. It helps those farmers and agronomists make smarter in-season nitrogen application decisions. They know when to apply, how much to apply, and where to apply it.”
This data-driven platform supports real-time nitrogen monitoring, allowing growers to optimize yield while minimizing waste and environmental impact. It begins with an individual consultation to understand each farm’s unique needs.
“We’re able to provide that in a data-driven format. When a farmer calls us, what we first do is get an understanding of their operation, how they’re currently applying nitrogen, what their problems are, and what they’re really seeking to achieve on their operations.”
Once that assessment is complete, Sentinel Ag connects farmers with trained experts in their Sentry Network.
“These certified service providers are in our Sentry Network, and basically these are businesses that provide agronomy services to their farm clients. We will link them up with one of those entities. They’ve been trained to sell and service our solution.”
From there, the system begins working immediately.
“At that point, they’ll identify the fields that they want to enroll. We’ll get them set up in the software, and they’ll begin receiving satellite images and those daily nitrogen status insights.”
Stansell adds that now is a perfect time to reassess nitrogen usage:
“There’s never been a better time to evaluate how you’re making your nitrogen management decisions and make sure that you are as efficient as possible and that every dollar you spend on nitrogen is actually contributing to the yield that you’re going to see at the end of the season. We can help you do that, and we’d love to talk to you about how we can do that.”
