The Georgia National Fair kicked off last week with a celebration that spotlighted the state’s top youth livestock exhibitors and recognized the winners of last year’s shows. Held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, the event runs from October 2nd to the 12th, featuring a blend of entertainment, agriculture, and education.

At the opening ceremony, Ryan Kelly, a youth livestock ambassador and chair of the livestock ambassador team, shared why the fair is more than just rides and games:

“It’s very important that we host the fair. We have all the different rides, all the fun attractions, but it’s also a way that the general public gets to come in and see agriculture and see where their food comes from, how they got the clothes on their back.

Agriculture is the backbone of America. It’s the number one industry, so it’s important that we highlight that industry, that we make sure that we spread the word that this is an important industry that we need to advocate for and protect. With the Georgia National Fairgrounds and partnering with all these different industries in agriculture, the public gets to see a side of agriculture that they may have never seen before, so it really is an eye-opening experience.”

The fair serves as a major platform for agricultural education, offering interactive exhibits, livestock competitions, and demonstrations that help the public understand where their food and fiber come from. The involvement of youth livestock ambassadors highlights how the next generation is being trained to promote and protect the future of farming.

From daily livestock shows to hands-on learning, the Georgia National Fair offers a unique opportunity for families, students, and visitors to engage with Georgia’s #1 industry—agriculture.
