USDA Awards $8.3 Million to Boost International Market Access for U.S. Specialty Crops

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced $8.3 million in funding to assist 11 recipients in expanding global market access for U.S. specialty crops. The funding is part of the Technical Assistance for Specialty Crops (TASC) Program, managed by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).
TASC helps U.S. producers and exporters overcome trade barriers and promote their high-quality, American-grown specialty crops in international markets.
“Our market development programs are bringing the bounty of American agriculture to people around the world, helping millions of hardworking American farmers, ranchers, and producers connect their safe, high-quality products with growing export markets,” said Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Undersecretary Luke Lindberg.
The TASC Program works directly with non-profit U.S. agricultural trade associations, farmer cooperatives, non-profit state and regional trade groups, state agencies, and small businesses. The initiative supports market development, overseas marketing, and promotional activities on behalf of U.S. producers and processors.
According to USDA, every dollar invested in these market development programs generates an estimated $24.50 in return, making TASC a highly effective tool in enhancing the global competitiveness of American agriculture.
This latest round of funding is particularly significant for specialty crop producers, who often face unique phytosanitary and technical trade barriers in global markets. These crops include products like tree nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, pulses, and horticultural products—all sectors where U.S. producers can benefit from increased international demand.
As international trade becomes increasingly complex, programs like TASC help ensure that U.S. agriculture remains a leader in food safety, quality, and sustainability on the world stage. With continued support, American farmers and agribusinesses can navigate regulatory hurdles and build long-term success in key global markets.
