Georgia Peanut Tour Highlights State’s Dominance in U.S. Peanut Production

The 2025 Georgia Peanut Tour wrapped up this past week, shining a spotlight on the state’s leadership in U.S. peanut production. Hosted by the Georgia Peanut Commission, University of Georgia, and other industry leaders, the tour offered insight into crop progress, acreage growth, and the counties leading the charge.
“The Georgia peanut tour, which was completed this past week, was hosted by the Georgia Peanut Commission, University of Georgia, and others that are helping in the peanut industry.”
Georgia farmers once again have plenty to be proud of. The state continues to dominate the national peanut scene, producing 50% of all U.S. peanuts in 2024—a figure that may climb even higher in 2025.
“They bragged a little bit about the peanut crop in Georgia because Georgia farmers produced 50% of the peanuts grown in the United States in 2024 and maybe more this year. 1.6 million tons in the peanut bale.”
Peanut production spans 78 of Georgia’s 159 counties, with several counties leading in acreage and yield.
“The top county, of course, is Mitchell County of 45,634 acres. Second is Decatur County with 38,000 acres. Worth is the often claiming the peanut capital of the world, but they have 37,398 acres in that county, followed by Early and Miller and Coffey. Those are your top counties in production that is going on this year.”
Despite facing drought conditions, Georgia farmers planted a record-breaking 910,000 acres of peanuts in 2025, compared to 805,000 acres harvested in 2024.
“Last year they harvest over an acreage of 805,000 acres. This year that’s going to be more like 915,000 acres.”
While last year’s yields averaged 3,800 pounds per acre, this year’s harvest may fall slightly short due to dry weather. Still, producers remain optimistic and proud of what’s in the ground.
“The yield was last year 3,800 pounds and looks like they’ll not make that this year with the present drought, but Georgia real proud of their 910,000 acres planted this year across the peanut belt.”
The Georgia Peanut Tour continues to offer valuable education and visibility for an industry that plays a central role in American agriculture and food supply.
