Okaloosa Farm Family Honored for Sustainable Agriculture by Florida Farm Bureau

The Florida Farm Bureau Federation has recognized an Okaloosa County farm family for their dedication to sustainable agriculture with the This Farm Cares award.

Luke Cattle Company, operated by Josh Luke, has been raising sustainable beef cattle for over 15 years. The farm was honored for implementing environmentally responsible practices that protect water quality, prevent soil degradation, and promote the long-term health of both the land and livestock.

The award celebrates farms that actively work to reduce their environmental footprint. Luke Cattle Company’s operations are an example of how innovative agricultural practices can support both productivity and natural resource conservation.

Luke Cattle Company has implemented practices to protect water quality, prevent soil damage and promote long term health for the land and cattle.

According to the Florida Farm Bureau Federation, the award:

Was created to recognize Florida’s farmers and ranchers for their efforts to drastically reduce water use, effectively manage nutrient programs to protect water quality through the latest innovative technology to accomplish their conservation goals.

Recipients of the This Farm Cares award receive a special sign to display at their farm’s entrance, showcasing their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The farm families recognized were awarded a sign to display at their farm entrance to showcase their commitment to conserving and preserving Florida’s natural resources.

The program is a collaborative effort between Florida Farm Bureau, UF/IFAS, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, aimed at promoting sustainable farming practices across the state.

Since its inception in 2001, the This Farm Cares program has recognized more than 900 farms and ranches for their conservation efforts across Florida.

This recognition reinforces that sustainable agriculture and profitability can go hand-in-hand, and Luke Cattle Company is a shining example of responsible Florida cattle production.
