In a strategic move to expand Georgia agriculture exports and attract international investment, Governor Brian Kemp recently led a trade delegation to Brazil, joined by state leaders including Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tyler Harper. The mission focused on increasing market access, building trade relationships, and exploring new opportunities for Georgia-grown commodities.
Commissioner Harper shared insights from the trip, emphasizing the importance of connecting Georgia producers with global markets. “Our visit to South America was about how can we find market access for Georgia commodities that we grow, how can we continue to build out partnerships between the Department of Agriculture, Economic Development, and other partners throughout the state to bring new investment to the state of Georgia that utilizes commodities that we grow here in our state and leverage that opportunity to give our growers, our producers, our farm families markets for their products, whether that’s abroad in other nations or that’s utilizing opportunities for growth here in the state of Georgia and utilizing those commodities in different ways and in new ways at the same time.”
The delegation met with agricultural leaders, businesses, and investors throughout Brazil to discuss not only export opportunities but also potential foreign direct investment (FDI) in Georgia’s agribusiness sector. Discussions included value-added processing, distribution, and sustainable agricultural practices.
“So I think the trip was very successful. We had a lot of fruitful conversation. I was honored to be a part of that and a lot of those conversations on how we can work to ensure that Georgia agriculture continues to be successful and especially in light of where we are in the ag economy and the tough things that we see out there, it is definitely time that we’ve got to continue to work to find new markets for our products, new opportunities for Georgia commodities and American agriculture and this is exactly working to do just that.”
This international outreach reflects Georgia’s commitment to keeping agriculture—its largest industry—competitive and thriving in a global market.
