USDA Reports Rising Peanut Consumption in July 2025, Boosting Outlook for Farmers

The USDA has released the peanut stocks and processing report for the month of July, marking the end of the peanut consumption and usage measuring period for the year. The report brings encouraging news for peanut farmers as they prepare to start digging the 2025 crop.
“That’ll end the year for peanut measuring of consumption and usage.”
According to the report, overall consumption of raw peanuts and shell products is up by nearly one percent compared to the same 12-month period in 2024.

The data shows positive trends in peanut butter usage, which increased by one percent, providing a boost for peanut processors and growers alike.

However, not all categories saw growth—peanut candy usage declined by 4.7 percent over the same period.

On a brighter note, peanuts and snacks continue to perform very well, registering an impressive 11.5 percent increase compared to July of last year.

Looking at the total peanut crop usage, there was a 5.1 percent increase over the 12-month period, further emphasizing the growing popularity of peanut-based snacks.
“But now for the total crop, it’s up 5.1 percent for the 12-month period. So peanut snacks are doing well and people are eating more peanut snacks apparently.”
The USDA report also highlights significant government purchases of peanuts and peanut butter in nutrition programs, totaling 26.6 million pounds, an 11 percent increase from the previous year.
“The government purchases last year was another big part of the peanut consumption, utilizing peanut butter in various nutrition programs. For the year, government purchases totaled 26.6 million pounds of peanuts and peanut butter, up 11 percent from the previous year.”
Overall, the USDA confirms that shell edible grade peanut use is up one percent compared to last year, signaling a healthy market for peanut farmers heading into the 2025 harvest.
“So overall, the U.S. government is saying that peanut use as shell edible grade peanuts is up one percent compared to last year.”
“And that’s good news for peanut farmers as they move into the field to start digging this crop.”
