The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association is making big moves to support the next generation of cattle producers with an action-packed week of educational and leadership-building events. We spoke with Bailey Watson, Youth Programs Director at the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, who shared exciting updates for young cattle enthusiasts across the state.
“We have our fall youth field days coming up, both north and south field days. Our south one is actually going to be September 3rd at Adams Angus Farm in Union Springs, so we’re very excited for that. It’ll be nine to two and we’ll have Reed McGuire and some of the Auburn University livestock judging team there. We’ll be talking about EPDs and performance data. We’ll be doing a lot of cattle evaluation and also doing some reasons.”
These youth field days are tailored to help young cattle producers gain hands-on experience and expand their understanding of EPDs (Expected Progeny Differences) and performance data—critical tools in modern cattle production.
“And then the following Wednesday on September 10th, we will be having our north field days at Tennessee River Music in Fort Payne. Same schedule, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’ll be EPDs and performance data, a lot of evaluation and reasons. That registration is actually still open, but it will close September 3rd at midnight.”
Bailey also talked about the Alabama Junior Cattlemen’s Association board coming to Montgomery.
“This Friday and Saturday, September 5th and 6th. So they will be coming to Montgomery and we’ll be spending the two days kind of touching base, what their year will look like serving as our director on the AJCA board. And I’m super excited for that because this is the first time I will actually get to meet the board in person since they were elected at the AJCA roundup. We’ll meet Montgomery at the ACA headquarters and then I’m going to take them to Kickback Ranch in Raymer, Alabama for some fun and have our meetings on Saturday there.”
Whether it’s field education or leadership development, the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association is proving its commitment to building a strong future for Alabama’s cattle industry.
