Peanut Industry Gathers in Albany, Georgia for Joint Shellers and Buying Points Meeting

This week, leaders from across the peanut industry will gather in Albany, Georgia, for a joint meeting of the American Peanut Shellers Association and the National Peanut Buying Points Association.
“Over 200 people are expected to attend.”
This pre-harvest gathering is a key event for the industry, bringing together stakeholders to discuss policy updates, crop expectations, climate risks, and operational improvements ahead of the 2025 peanut harvest.
Among the featured speakers is a leading voice on climate science:
“The featured speakers will include Dr. Marshall Shepard. He is Associate Dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. He’ll be discussing the latest research on weather climate risk.”
Another critical topic on the agenda is logistics and port access, especially as demand and export needs increase.
“At the helm, there’ll be another report on the Georgia Ports Authority. David Porter, Regional Sales Manager with the Georgia Ports Authority.”
Policy and regulation updates will also take center stage with insights from Washington, D.C.
“Bob Redding of the Redding firm in Washington will give an update on the Washington, D.C. outlook, including an update on the peanut program that has been passed.”
The meeting will also celebrate achievements within the industry:
“50-year celebration for Nolan Steele and Grant Nolan present will give a presentation during the program.”
Inspection and crop updates will be provided to help industry leaders prepare for a potentially large harvest.
“An update from the Federal State Inspection Service is coming up. Clay Perkle, the Director of Operations, will be giving that report.”
“And Dr. Scott Nunford, Agronomist with the University of Georgia, will give an update on the 2025 peanut crop.”
“Awards will be presented, and this will be a joint meeting of the shellers and the peanut buying points as they gear up for pre-harvest in the peanut industry. They’ll be talking about all the changes and how to handle this big crop.”
This event marks a pivotal moment in the 2025 peanut season, setting the stage for collaboration and preparation across the sector.
