Well, I must start my report today wishing my wife Kathy a happy anniversary. It was a hot August day like this 52 years ago.

“We said I do. A couple of Iowa farm kids, in fact, we had our reception on the Oppold farm. Dad smoked a hog and our wellhouse made the perfect bar. Happy anniversary, Kathy.”

This is the Bottom Line report. Now, back down to business as we kick off the 2025 Pro Farmer Crop Tour.

This event is leading the way and likely drawing more attention than usual after the USDA surprised the corn trade last week. Two scouting teams will cover over 2,000 acres this week—one starting in western Ohio from the east, and the other from eastern Nebraska and southeast South Dakota in the west. The two groups will meet Thursday night in Rochester, Minnesota, with final results coming on Friday.

“We think Pro Farmer will likely end up a little closer to $16 billion and they’ll not address the added acres that USDA found.”

As the Pro Farmer Crop Tour provides fresh insights this week, market watchers will be closely monitoring crop conditions and yields.
