The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association is once again sharing the beef story through its annual steak cookout with the Auburn football team. We spoke with Josie Jones of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association for details on this highly anticipated event.

“Last night was a super fun night in Auburn,” Jones shared. “We do an annual event with the Auburn football team and the Auburn athletics program every single year called the Auburn Football Family Dinner.

During this special evening, the cattlemen fire up the grills and serve juicy ribeye steaks to the Auburn players, coaches, and their families. “We just kind of wish them a happy back-to-school season and get them ready for football kickoff,” said Jones.

But the event is more than just a delicious dinner. It’s also an opportunity to highlight beef as a powerful protein to one of the most influential groups in the state. “It’s not only a neat event for us because we get to highlight this protein with a large influential group in the state of Alabama with the Auburn football program,” Jones explained, “but we also get to visit with their family and then also the staff.”

A special part of the evening is the collaboration with the team’s nutritionist, a strong beef advocate. “Giving them the opportunity to fill up on some protein and get some nutrition in their diet before they take to the field this year,” she said.

Now in its third year, the tradition is clearly becoming a favorite. “We had several players who made a beeline straight for the steak table as soon as they walked in the door,” Jones laughed. “They’re definitely looking forward to this event every year and getting to fill up on beef.”

Jones also praised the Auburn nutrition staff: “They’re really big on beef as a protein and giving them the iron, zinc, and other nutrients that they need.”

The Elmore County, Lee County, and Montgomery County Cattlemen’s Chapters all assist with the event, making it a true team effort. “The players, the family, the coaches—everybody’s always excited when the cattlemen roll into the parking lot.”
