Phytogen Cottonseed Announcing Two New Cottonseed Varieties
Adaptability and Consistent Performance

One of the standout features of the new varieties is their broad adaptability across diverse soil types and irrigation regimes. This flexibility enables producers to make more confident decisions as they plan each season. According to Dr. Joel Faircloth, Corteva Portfolio Leader for Cotton, these new cottonseed varieties are designed to help farmers succeed in today’s unpredictable economic environment.

“Yield is the first thing growers need, especially in challenging market conditions,” Faircloth said. “These varieties offer a step change in yield potential to help U.S. cotton producers achieve more on their farms. They raise the bar on yield potential and offer broad adaptability for more consistent production across varying agronomic conditions.”

Advancements in Breeding Technology

Corteva’s cutting-edge breeding program played a key role in accelerating the development of these varieties. Dr. Dan Gorman, Corteva Global Cotton Breeding Lead, explained that PhytoGen® has strategically used advanced breeding techniques to enhance product development.

“In recent years, PhytoGen® has leveraged the strengths of the Corteva breeding program to speed up the process of bringing varieties to market, while giving us more confidence in the products we advance,” Gorman said. “We start with elite germplasm and then utilize genomic technologies and molecular markers for making selections so we don’t have to wait for field visuals.”

These technological advancements allow Corteva to deliver superior seed options to growers with increased speed and reliability.
