The Southeast peanut industry returned to Panama City Beach, Florida, this week for its annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference. After a couple of years away at other locations, the Southern Peanut Farmers Federation returned to the popular beach site for the three-day conference, which started on Wednesday and will conclude on Friday.
Don Koehler, executive director of the Georgia Peanut Commission, highlighted the importance of this week’s conference.
The Southern Peanut Growers Conference is comprised of the Alabama Peanut Producers Association, Florida Peanut Producers Association, Georgia Peanut Commission, Mississippi Peanut Growers Association and the South Carolina Peanut Board.
House Committee on Agriculture Chairman GT Thompson and Bob Redding, who works for the Redding Firm and serves as a lobbyist for agricultural groups in Washington, D.C., are scheduled to speak during a session highlighting peanut policy and economics on Friday.
