Peanut Industry Sends Relief to Texas Hill Country
Peanut Proud, the humanitarian organization representing the U.S. peanut industry, has stepped up to support communities impacted by recent flooding in the Texas Hill Country. The group announced it has shipped 30,240 jars of its Peanut Proud peanut butter to the San Antonio Food Bank to assist those affected by last week’s flood.
This effort is part of the food bank’s emergency feeding program and serves the counties most severely impacted by the flooding. Deliveries are currently being made daily by the food bank to local food pantries and Christian outreach ministries throughout the Kerrville area.
Industry-Wide Support Funds the Response
The total cost of the peanut butter donation project came to $37,195. Thanks to rapid and generous contributions from across the peanut sector, the effort was fully funded.
The Georgia Peanut Commission and Dell Cotton each contributed $5,000 toward the shipment. Additional support came from several major peanut organizations and associations, including:
- Alabama Peanut Producers
- National Peanut Buying Points Association
- North Carolina peanut stakeholders
- American Peanut Shellers Association
- Virginia Peanut Growers Association
- American Peanut Council
With the collective contributions, all costs were covered and the shipment has already reached the San Antonio Food Bank.
