The Georgia Cotton Commission’s (GCC) mid-year meeting is less than two weeks away. Georgia growers and industry specialists can still sign up for the meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, at the Nesmith-Lane Conference Center in Statesboro, Georgia.
It will be a timely meeting for the industry on the heels of the Big Beautiful Act legislation being signed into law and the announcement of the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program.
Taylor Sills, GCC executive director, talked about the meeting, held in conjunction with the University of Georgia Cotton Pre-Harvest Workshop.
“The mid-year meeting is coming up in a couple of weeks. We do have this Big Beautiful Bill Act that has these new farm bill provisions included in it. You can sign up for the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program. It’s going to help with losses from Hurricane Helene or Tropical Storm Debby that came through last August,” Sills said.
“These programs, there’s a lot of questions and a lot of interest about them. That’s why we’re glad we’ve got Tas Smith from the National Cotton Council who’s going to come and speak to us at the meeting. We’ve also got Akiko Inui, Chair of the Cotton Board, who’s going to come and talk about the changes in their priorities at the Cotton Board and at Cotton Incorporated; how they’re going to do business differently in a more complex, global cotton environment.”
During the lunch program the Georgia Quality Cotton Awards for the 2025 crop will be presented. There is no charge to attend. Pre-registration is requested to help with meal plans. Register online at www.georgiacottoncommission.org.
