Farm Bill

Inside the sprawling legislative package moving through Washington, key elements of the long-awaited Farm Bill have made their way into both House and Senate proposals—a positive development for the agricultural sector.

According to Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR), the Senate’s version of the bill closely mirrors the House version, which is essential for eventual passage. Provisions include:

  • ? Increased Price Loss Coverage (PLC) reference prices
  • ? Updated farm base acres
  • ? Marketing loan rate increases
  • ? Payment limitations reflecting current production costs

Jamie Brown, Chairman of the Federation, applauded the update:

“This bill addresses outdated Farm Bill provisions and reinforces the farm safety net. It supports commodity exports, research, and marketing. It gives growers, agribusinesses, and rural communities the confidence to move forward.”

With both chambers aligning, there’s cautious optimism among peanut growers and other stakeholders that Congress will finalize the legislation soon.

Stay tuned—a final vote may come later this week.
